Choosing executors and roles

Executor choice is one of the biggest levers for how hard your death will be on others.

Choose for fairness and capability

More than one executor

Two can be safer than one, if they can work together.

Too many can create deadlock.

Beneficiaries as executors

You can name a beneficiary as executor. This is common.

It gives them a say, but it also creates potential conflict.

If you do this, choose people who will not weaponise it.

Tell people you chose them

Do not leave surprise roles. Confirm they are willing.

Document where the will is

The best executor is useless if nobody can find the will.
